The church is situated by the side of Chinnar, a small brook, 300 meters from petta junction of Kanjirappally town. It is 45 kilometers east of Kottayam on the KK Road and 55 kilometers west of Thekkady, a popular tourist destination.
Devotees gather here in hundreds of thousands, on September 8, the birth day of Akkara Amma. People observe 8 days of lent prior to the feast of Blessed Virgin Mary. There is a regular stream of devotees every day of the year.
