SEPTEMBER 8, NATIVITY OF MARY

People celebrate the feast with many gifts to the Mother. They offer to devotee’s food packets, and puzhukku— collages of boiled cassava, yam, corm etc. the visitors eat the blessed food reverently, in honor of the mother. The farmers bring cardamom, nutmeg, black pepper, orange, ginger, clove, coffee beans, and the like produce from their farms. The precincts   turn to an ocean of devotees, swaying, chanting, murmuring: Akkara Amma, our refugee, bless us!
